(CFM) Country music icon Glen Campbell has passed away after succumbing to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 81. Throughout his legendary 60-year career, Campbell produced 21 Top 40 hits including his seminal classic “Rhinestone Cowboy.” To date, he has sold over 45 million records.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.” – The Campbell Family
Earlier this year, Campbell released his final studio album Adiós. The disc is a collection of covers of some of Campbell’s favorite songs by Bob Dylan and a slew of others. In 2011, Glen Campbell released his final original LP Ghost On The Canvas and embarked on his iconic 151-show farewell tour.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Glen, his family, and his friends. Music has lost another true treasure. The Rhinestone Cowboy rides away.
