On a rainy morning in New York City, leave it to the one and only Luke Bryan to brighten things up. The Today Show kept it country for the second week in a row as the 2016 Citi Summer Concert Series rolled on despite the drizzle. Bryan, in the midst of a massive tour, stopped by to play in the rain. The chart-topping country king dropped hits from his latest #1 album Kill The Lights as well as some other past gems.
Bryan kicked things off with “Play It Again,” a big hit from his 2013 platinum outing Crash My Party. Then he strapped on a gorgeous Gibson acoustic for a passion-fueled rendition of his latest single “Huntin’, Fishin’, and Lovin’ Every Day.” Before the show while mingling with the audience, one die-hard fan gifted Bryan with a plush fish to honor the track.
Then, Bryan slowed the tempo a bit for his gentle, mature ballad “Strip It Down,” which was nominated for Song of The Year at this year’s American Country Countdown Awards. Next was “I Don’t Want This Night To End,” which garnered the singer multiple pieces of hardware back in 2012.
It was clear the fans didn’t want this morning to end. So, Bryan gave an encore. After his tapings were done, Bryan threw in “Crash My Party” off air as a special bonus for the fans (who were still cheering their hearts out in the rain). Despite the dreary weather, Bryan put on a great show for fans both in attendance and watching at home.
Since the release of his third album Tailgates & Tanlines back in 2011, Luke Bryan has been a force to be reckoned with in country music. This last two discs have debuted at #1 on both the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts. To date, the singer has sold approximately 8 million albums and racked up an impressive 15 chart-topping singles. Bryan is currently trekking across North America on his Kill The Lights Tour with special guests Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch which continues into fall.
