This morning on NBC‘s Today Show, country music superstar Dierks Bentley brought the beach to the big apple as he kicked off the 2016 Citi Summer Concert Series. In the middle of Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, Bentley took the stage to perform tracks from his highly-anticipated new album
Black which was released today via Capitol Nashville.
Dirks really set the scene for summer, playing his smash hit “Somewhere On a Beach,” the lead single from Black. Bentley performed the track at the ACM Awards back on April 3 in Las Vegas, which he also co-hosted with Luke Bryan. Bryan is set to take the Citi Summer Concert Series Stage a week from today on June 3.
A large gathering of military personnel were on hand to take in the performance. Bentley was sure to give them a special shout-out. “It’s Memorial Day Weekend,” Dierks stated. “And with all these military folks here in the crowd, I’m going to do a song called ‘I Hold On.’” Bentley also played another patriotic anthem “Freedom” from his new disc. Dierks also made sure to take plenty of time to sign autographs and take selfies with the men and women in uniform.
The weather isn’t the only thing heating up this weekend. Bentley is on quite a hot streak himself. Yesterday, he released a new single “Different For Girls” featuring a guest spot from Elle King. In addition to his album release and Today appearance, Bentley is currently in tour and is set to perform at Bayou Country Superfest at LSU Tigers Stadium in Louisiana on Sunday. On August 7, Dierks will headline Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA. His summer is filled with several other festival and fair appearances in addition to his individual tour dates.
Bentley’s last album, 2014’s Riser, debuted at #6 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on Billboard Top Country Albums. The disc garnered him a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album at the 57th Grammy Awards. Bentley signed with Capitol Records back in 2003. Since then, he’s released seven studio albums that have produced 13 number one hit singles on the country charts. His self-titled debut LP and his sophomore effort Modern Day Drifter have both reached platinum status. Throughout his career, Bentley has been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards. In addition, he’s garnered two CMT Awards, two CMA Awards, and one ACM Award.
