Last night at the 49th Annual CMA Awards, rising country star Christ Stapleton teamed up with pop icon Justin Timberlake for a show-stopping duet. It was arguably the most anticipated performance of the evening, and Stapleton and Timberlake did not disappoint. They kicked things off with a very appropriate cover of George Jones’ “Tennessee Whiskey” and then launched into Timberlake’s country-soaked song “Drink You Away” off his 2013 platinum disc The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2. Stapleton covered “Tennessee Whiskey” on his landmark debut album Traveller. Stapleton and Timberlake brought the audience to it’s feet. At one point, Keith Urban can be seen recording the performance on his cell phone.
As if the performance wasn’t enough of a highlight for Stapleton, absolutely dominated the evening, bringing home the ceremony’s biggest awards for New Artist of The Year, Album of The Year (for his acclaimed debut LP Traveller), and Male Vocalist of The Year, beating out the likes of Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, and Blake Shelton.
